We offer a range of extra-curricular music opportunities for students.

Choir
All students in Prep to Year 6 are welcome to participate in either the junior choir (P-2) or senior choir (3-6). Throughout the year, students have the opportunity to perform at lunchtime concerts, school assemblies and other performances such as Geham's Got Talent and Sing Out. Choirs rehearse once a week during break times.

Instrumental Music

The skills, concepts and attitudes that students acquire as a result of music education benefit them not only during their schooling but also in the years beyond, whatever their chosen career path.  Through the Instrumental Music Curriculum teachers make explicit the connections to Australian Curriculum: General Capabilities and 21st Century skills.

As a school that understands the value of the arts, Geham State School is proud to offer students from grade 4 – 6 the opportunity to be part of our Instrumental Music program.  This program provides students with the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments from the Woodwind, Brass, Percussion and String family. Instruments available to students include:

  • Flute
  • Clarinet
  • Saxophone
  • Trumpet
  • Trombone
  • Bass Guitar
  • Drum Kit/Mallet Percussion

Enrolment

Students from grades 3 – 5 are given the opportunity to express their interest in joining the program at the beginning of Term 4 each year. A tryout process is then undertaken whereby students are able to try each instrument on offer in order to support the selection process. Beginner students will then start instrumental music lesson in Term 1 of the following year.

Lessons and Ensemble Rehearsals

Students participate in a weekly group lesson during school time with a qualified Instrumental Music teacher and a weekly ensemble rehearsal before school.
